Behind the lens

My work as a professional photographer started a little more than a decade ago - long before I became a wife and mother and when film was the only way to go. The photographic medium compelled me because I'm a natural observer of people and life. I've always been a bit of a memory keeper and photography has helped me store memories away to treasure forever that much more easily . I have ALWAYS loved having as many pictures as I could get my hands on,looking at pictures, and, way back when, even looking at negatives of pictures. (Oh, how I do miss the age of film!)

Currently I work primarily in digital photography, but I continue to maintain my goal to preserve the integrity of every moment as quickly as it happens. Since establishing my photography business in 2001, I've shot weddings, portraits, events, and freelance work up and down the eastern seaboard. I have specialty experience working in Jewish Orthodox weddings, Bat and Bar mitzvahs, as well as with special needs populations.

In addition to being a seasoned professional of photography, my day job is in Visual Art education at a Christian high school. This job combines the things that are most important to me: Visual Arts and my love for the Lord. I'm well versed in the areas of classic studio art, art history, and digital art (I teach classes in both photoshop and illustrator) and I believe in the power of creativity.

My own understanding of the visual arts is this: God gives us the gift of creativity and the things we create are our gift to Him. My primary goal with the photographic medium is to capture images that are completely palpable and always visceral. I believe in the power of the moment at hand. I believe in the details of the interactions as they occur around me. And the way I see it, if I'm gonna walk with the Lord , I might as well take a few pictures along the way to be able to document and recall the incredible ways that which He bless us all.
